Mai Kuraki (倉木 麻衣, Kuraki Mai) was born in Funabashi, Chiba Perfecture, on October 28, 1982 (age 28) is a Japanese R&B and J-Pop singer. Her debut single, "Love, Day After Tomorrow" which was released on December 1999 sold out around 1 million 385 thousand pieces.
A total of 5 albums had ever charted at #1 on the Oricon Charts, includes "delicious way", that sold 3 million 530 thousand pieces. Mai graduated from Faculty of Applied Social Sciences in Ritsumeikan University on March 2005.
In junior high school, Mai is very pleased to watch the video of Michael Jackson, and listen to songs of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill. Since in 2th Grade of Junior High School, Mai had wanted to be a famous singer and started recording his voice on a demo tape.
Furthermore, Mai met Nagato Daikō producer of artist management Being Inc. After listening to a demo tape of Mai, Nagato contend to Mai to make his debut when was high school. Mai also suggestions for learning English, and more often in the form of voice recording a demo tape.
After sitting in high school, Mai was met by Nagato with staff of Giza Studio. Recording a demo tape containing his voice singing "To Zion" from Lauryn Hill managed to bring Mai Kuraki as a singer.
School holidays in the summer of 1999 was used Mai for recordings for Boston, United States. At that time, Mai was 16 years old, and made its debut in America as Mai-K. In October 1999, her debut single, "Baby I Like" was released in America under the indie label, Bip! Record.
In Japan, his debut single, "Love, Day After Tomorrow" was released just two months later, December 12, 1999. After 13 weeks in circulation (3 March 2000), the single "Love, Day After Tomorrow" made it through the sales figures of over 1 million copies.
On Valentine's Day 2007, Mai released the single's 26th, "Season of Love". The single will serve as the theme song drama detective Shin-Kyoto Meikyū Annai which aired every Thursday night on TV Asahi. Mai Kuraki now no longer under the management of the Giza Studio after moving to Northern Music since June 1, 2007, although Northern Music is still affiliated with the Giza Studio.
