Kumi Koda (Born on November 13, 1982) is a Japanese singer and songwriter from Kyoto. Well known for her urban and R&B songs. Her name aired, after the succeed of her 7th single, entitled real Emotion/1000 no Kotoba, which was used as theme song for Final Fantasy X-2.

Her real name was Kumiko Koda. Height is 154 cm. Mass media praised her appearance and style of fashion as Ero Kakko ii (Erotic and stylist). Kumi Koda is older brother of Misono, the former female vocals of Day After Tomorrow.

In 2006, her song entitled No Regret which was contained of 4 tracks was used as 2nd opening theme for the Law of Ueki anime series.
  • Early Career

Koda compelled to become a singer because she pleased with the songs by Dreams Comes True. In 1999, Koda joined TV shows Asayan which was looking for additional members for Morning Musume. At that time, Koda was still studying in Advanced School on Princess Kyoto Seika Gakuen. She had passed the audition until the 2nd stage, but Koda was prior winning as an overall champion of avex dream 2000. As a winner, Koda reserved the right to join vocal technique lessons and signed with avex company records.

Her debuted single, entitled Take Back was released in United State on December 6, 2000, by using name Koda. The song peaked at #19 on the oricon single sales of Billboard Dance Pop Sales Chart. And could go up until #18. Her 2nd single, entitled Trust Your Love, immediately entered ranked #39 on the Billboard oricon song. And peaked #1 position on the Billboard Dance Pop Sales Chart. On December 16, 2006. Koda received the award to Japan Yusen Award-39, which was held by USEN paying radio stations. The Japan Record Award appreciation, was also received by Koda for 2 times on December 30, 2006.
